Get Ireland Growing: Zero Waste Community Garden

Kildare's own Zero Waste Community Gardens in Rathcofey are dedicated to growing fruit and veg in an organic fashion, ensuring sustainability. All their gardeners are local residents, and the aim of the garden is to benefit the community.

All of their seeds are organic and come from around the island of Ireland. There are 13 dedicated gardeners who tend vegetable plots, 18 fruit trees, and a beautiful heritage orchard, as well as a polytunnel that enables them to grow food year round.

The project has helped to bring the community together, where people of all ages, nationalities and abilities work together. They're working together to reduce their carbon footprint and protect the environment with bird boxes, bat boxes and bug hotels.

With the €5,000 they're planning on installing a solar power system, lighting and heated beds for seedlings, and a storage container for equipment to help their growing power.
