Speaking of Which… Alison Pilkington
Pilkington describes her art practice as exploring the idea of the psychological self and how this might be manifested through painting. In her recent body of work she attempts to play with how familiar yet comic images have the potential to disturb or disorientate or perhaps be uncanny. She focuses on how imagery interacts with the intrinsic qualities of paint, how the paint material moves and how it can be played with. The paintings are carefully planned through several stages of drawing. The quality of paint handling, although seemingly casual, is a result of repeated attempts at getting something 'right'. Forthcoming shows in Ireland: Ashford Gallery RHA 2018, The Dock, Leitrim 2018.
