Budding Artists
Join our ‘budding’ artists, a creative workshop especially for younger children taking place once a month, under the attentive eye of artist Niamh Synnott. Children are encouraged to take a closer look at the natural world all around them to inspire fun art-making activities. Suitable for 4 to 7 year olds.

Our October Family Day in dlr LexIcon is all about celebrating childrens' books and creativity. October is Children's Book Festival month across Ireland. We have the fab author & illustrator duo, Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve for their not to be missed Pug-a-Doodle-Do shows, as well as yoga storytime, comic book workshops, exhibition launch of creativity by local children, music performances, art workshops, exhibition tours, Irish Language craft event as well as the ever popular face painting, balloon modelling and glitter tattoos! Open House Dublin:
Open House Dublin (OHD) is Ireland’s largest architecture festival, inviting all citizens to explore their city. It works through a simple but powerful idea: showcasing outstanding architecture for everyone to experience. Buildings that aren’t usually accessible to the public and buildings of architectural merit open their doors for one weekend, with architectural tours provided by expert guides.

  • Chocolate Factory Creative Community Dublin
Henry Williams, a confectioner, and Robert Woods, a merchant, formed Williams & Woods in the mid-1870’s, on the site of the present-day Parnell Street Cinema, then Simpson’s Hospital. Through the latter part of the 1800’s the property extended northwards along Kings Inn Street. In 1908 a fire destroyed the building and in 1910 the new building, one of the first reinforced concrete structures in Dublin, now known as the Chocolate Factory was completed, custom-designed around the jam-making process. Along with this, the factory produced a variety of chocolates & sweets, such as Toblerone & Silvermints. Admission: Free
  • Dublin Port Boat Tour a tour of Dublin Port aboard the St Bridget boat to view the recent development works of the Alexandra Basin Redevelopment Project from the Masterplan 2012–2040.

  • Airbnb Office Tour
Airbnb’s Warehouse on Hanover Quay is a building of architectural and historical interest, previously home to Dublin Trawling Ice & Cold Storage from 1865 to the 1950s and the Raleigh Bicycle Factory from 1954 to 1980. The warehouse was derelict until 2016, until a careful and faithful restoration and renovation was carried out by RKD architects and fitted out by Heneghan Peng. The three stories of the warehouse are designed around a central atrium amphitheatre, which serves as the heart of the building. Meeting rooms that are replicas of listings on the Airbnb platform, with a few iconic Irish inclusions, invite you to travel around the world and across Ireland as you walk through the space. It's Oct-Sober!
It's Oct-Sober here at The Clockwork Door and we're putting on a host of great activities for everyone! Across two days (Saturday 14 & Sunday 15th) we will be hosting open board games sessions all day long as well Jackbox, a party series of social games that everyone can play using their smart with audience interactivity running from 4pm each day. Saturday evening will see us hosting Stand-up Comedy from 7:30pm while Sundays highlight will be our Rick & Morty themed Publess Quiz running from 7:00pm and a Poetry to close out the night. Goodies and Giveaways running all weekend so come along and get involved! :)

Derrycassin Walks
The shortest walk, marked in blue dots is the Nature Trail Walk, takes about 30 minutes. This leaves the inner car park, crosses a stone bridge and follows a track. Take a path down to the river and follow the river's edge past the second stone bridge. Keep left towards the beech grove, where you can view the lake and admire the variety of trees and plants in mixed woodland. Turn left at the next junction around the esker hills and return by outward path. Marked in red dots and taking about 45 minutes, this walk follows the track past the map board away from the car park. Pass the site of Derrycassin House (no buildings) and keep along the woodland path with fir trees on your left and spruce on the right.

The Táin Wayáin-way
Like all places off the beaten track, the Cooley has an aura of agelessness and has become a popular place to escape to, however briefly, and overnight accommodation options are plentiful. The Táin Way is a circular route that loops around Carlingford Mountain (590m) and its western outliers, touching the top of one at Clermont, which has a Bronze Age cairn. Terrain consists mainly of quiet roads, forestry tracks, and open mountain paths, and from the high points the views are spectacularly good, northwards across Carlingford Lough to the Mournes, and southwards down the east coast. Total aggregate ascent is about 1000m, including a few long ascents. Dogs are not permitted on farmland.

Visit Costello Memorial Chapel
This diminutive place by the corner of the road measures just 5m by 3.6m, making it one of Europe's smallest chapels. It was built in 1877 by Edward Costello, distraught at the early death of his wife Mary. Both husband and wife now rest within the grey limestone interior lit by a single stained-glass window. Their embalmed bodies were placed in lead coffins, which sit on either side of the door. If the door is locked, ask at St George's Heritage Centre for the key.

A Musical Spectacular
Featuring the very best of local Co. Antrim talent this spectacular night of music and dance features over 100 performers ranging from 8 to 80 years of age. The evening is hosted by Conor Taggart and his 8 piece Big Band, The Phat Katz, performing Swing classics from Sinatra to Michael Buble.  The Gillian Dougan School of Dancers will take to the stage with their amazing tap and ballet dancing routines and the Thompson Primary School Choir will also appear singing songs from the shows. To round things off the fantastic 40 strong Ballyclare Male Voice Choir will also entertain us, as well as a few surprise guests performances throughout the evening. The Irish Vegan Festival running for the 2nd time at the New Watefront on SATURDAY 14TH OCTOBER. A Farplace Animal Rescue charity event.
We will be hosting 100 stalls serving delicious homemade food, healthy drinks, selling quirky clothes and accessories, and speaking to you about their inspiring charities. We will have special guest speakers to engage with you their work and views along with educational documentaries about how our food choices effect our environment, health and animal welfare.

Ed Reavy Trad Music Fest Oct 13-15, 2017
Cavan Town Branch CCÉ present a celebration of the music of Ed Reavy. renowned Irish-American musician & composer of traditional dance tunes. Ed was born in Barnagrove, near Cootehill, Co. Cavan in 1897. He emigrated with his parents to Philadelphia in 1912 and only returned twice to Ireland, first in 1922 and again in 1969.
