The gardeners have been busy growing a huge variety of colourful pumpkins, gourds, squashes and lots of other plants for our Halloween display. The special harvest display will be built just outside the Visitor Centre stage by stage. Ask questions and find out more about the organic fruit and vegetables being used as well as the design and construction. Each day the display will grow and take shape towards its final splendour. Try your luck at guessing the weight of the giant pumpkin and submit your entry at the Visitor Centre reception - the prize winner will be announced on Monday 5th November.

Carlow African Film Festival

VISUAL is once again delighted to be part of Carlow African Film Festival. Now in its 14th year, it continues to provide an annual platform to celebrate the beauty and diversity of Africa through film, honour excellence in African filmmaking and promote cultural interaction in Ireland. This year’s screening is Half of A Yellow Sun, a movie based on a novel of the same name written by Chimamanda Ngozi. It’s a love story which two wealthy Nigeria family take wildly different path in life, however both caught up in the outbreak of the Nigeria civil war.

Following OFFline 2014’s screening of Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story, to a hugely positive audience response, we are delighted to welcome back filmmaker Ross Whitaker with his latest critically acclaimed documentary. The film intimately follows champion boxer Katie Taylor as she attempts to rebuild her career after a year of turmoil threatened to derail her career. With many writing her off, Taylor decided to start again, and the notoriously private champion agreed to let a small crew document her attempt to rescale the heights. This film unravels the deeply personal reasons behind the career low and shows the champions grit and determination to start over and fight back to win her first professional world title within a year. Followed by Q&A with Director Ross Whitaker.

Westmeath SPCA Fundraising Dog Walk

Westmeath SPCA have been helping animals in Westmeath for 66 years, all animals, domesticated and wild, large and small, feathered and furry. This is our third annual fundraising dog walk, do join in and help the animals! This is a fundraising walk so please be generous. We're arranging special treats for all tail wagging participants. We hope we'll have a fun walk and the furry walkers enjoy their gifts. There's an approximately 3Km loop walk around the edge of the parkland, lake view included, which the walk will follow. For anyone who is wondering how to donate to Westmeath SPCA straight away this will help. We accept donations via IDonate: There's a few safety requirements for the Walk; All dogs must be on a lead; all dog walkers must carry poop bags and scoop the poop. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and be responsible for your companions. Safety is of utmost importance. Wear practical footwear and weather appropriate clothes. Paula Lambert Puppet Theatre returns to Wexford Spiegeltent again this year with Bosco’s Garden and Cinderella on Sunday 14th October. Bosco is a cheeky, lovely, funny, slightly-cracked, irrepressible, eternal five-year-old who lives in a box and who loves nothing more than to just be Bosco and meet all the boys and girls. After starring on Irish TV for three decades, you’ll see why Bosco remains a firm favourite for each new generation. Enjoy the story of Cinderella through this completely interactive live experience. Paula Lambert has been Travelling the country for over 40 years. In the early years with her father Eugene Lambert and many Loved characters from RTE bringing Puppet Theatre to the Children of Ireland for the first time. This is a beautifully produced show with large puppets, colourful sets and exquisite lighting and is suitable for an age group up to ten years of age.

Join the Glens Red Squirrel Group to celebrate 'Squirreltober' with a guided walk through Cottage Wood to see if you can spot the Red Squirrel, which is regularly seen here. The woodland also contains a range of native and non-native species of trees and shrubs such as Scots Pine, Elder, Holly and Ash. A wide range of plants grow below the woodland canopy including Wood Sorrel, Primroses, Saxifrage, Wild Garlic, Celandine, Bluebells and Violets.
