Fitbit to create up to 100 jobs at new Dublin HQ


Fitness tech company Fitbit has announced that it will open its Europe, Middle East, and Africa headquarters in Dublin.

It plans to create 50 jobs during the remainder of this year and up to 100 by the end of 2017.

The new office will house senior management roles and sales, marketing, operations, finance and customer support staff.

Des Power will operate as Managing Director - he spoke to Newstalk'sBreakfast Business and said that the reaction to this announcement has been "phenomenal."

He added that the believes that the brand and its position as established as a leader in the emerging wearable tech industry will attract ambitious professionals to fill these roles.

The fitness tracker has seen substantial growth of 150% across Europe in the second quarter of this year.

Fitbit products allow users to track their movement and heart rate throughout the day.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD welcomed the news:

"Today’s announcement is a further recognition of Ireland’s appeal as an international hub for successful companies such as Fitbit. Fitbit is one of the world’s most popular and fastest growing health and wellness companies, and I am delighted that they have selected Ireland as the location for their EMEA headquarters as it will provide exciting employment opportunities for our skilled workers."
