Hit the road jack: Motorola have ditched the headphone jack on their new phone

Motorola's next flagship device has been unveiled and it doesn't have a headphone jack. The issue of removing the headphone jack is highly divisive with many tech fans objecting to the notion of removing the port from smartphones.

Rumours have been rife for sometime that the iPhone 7 will not have a headphone jack, but Motorola have been Apple to it with the release of their Moto Z.

The lack of jack means the Moto Z is incredibly thin, measuring in at just 5.2mm. The device has a 5.5-inch, Quad HD AMOLED display. Internally there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and users can choose between a 32GB or 64GB model. There's also a microSD slot, which allows users to increase the memory up to 2TB.

There's a 13MP camera with optical image stabilisation and laser autofocus on the back with a 5MP camera on the front. There's a neat little flash on the front too, which increases the quality of low-light selfies.

The battery life looks promising with up to 30 hours of life and the ability to reach 8 hours of power in just 15 minutes via TurboPower. This will, of course, need to be tested.

The Moto Z will be available around the world at the beginning of September.
