Kick Start Your Business – Able Table

Print

It is the turn of Caríosa Sullivan to get her business, Able Table, kickstarted on the Right Hook. Shane Coleman who was sitting in for George, and Gerard Tannam of Island Bridge Brand Development were on hand as always to give the business a kickstart, as only they can.

The Business Idea
When Caríosa’s mother, and Special Needs Assistant, Esther was looking for a table that would naturally include people of all abilities for her classroom, she was unable to find one. And so she asked her husband Martin, who’s pretty handy, to make one, and he created the first Able Table.

About Able Table
  • The Able Table is a universally designed table for wheelchair users and people who live with various kinds of disability in their day-to-day lives. The Able Table has a friendly and inviting design that allows educators, parents and caretakers alike to provide nurturing hand-over-hand assistance in a comfortable space. Seating up to 4 wheelchair users and 4 care staff or peers, the Able Table is inclusion in its most basic form.
  • Born out of necessity, the Able Table received huge response and recognition for its unique design and functionality which prompted Caríosa to think about a commercial venture and bring the Able Table product to market.
  • Able Tables are available in eight-seater and also four seater models to cater for large or small groups and there is also scope to maybe customise Able Table in the future.

Gers Tips and Advice
  • Apart from the functionality of the Able Table, the design is very unique and very pleasing to the eye. It’s very evident that there was a lot of craftsmanship gone in to each product.
  • The website is also very functional and user friendly and gives a great visual idea of the product. Although there is an option to trial the product before purchasing there is no mention of costs or how to actually buy the Able Table on the website. It is important that this is addressed so that people almost know what they are getting themselves into in terms of costs etc.
  •  It really is a fantastic product that genuinely serves a need. The testimonials need to be front and centre on the website also – good testimonials go a long way particular for a functional product like this. Caríosa should draw these out a little bit more.
  • There is a global market for this product, and its important that Caríosa protects not only the design but also the intellectual property of the product as there is a great opportunity for Caríosa to take Able Table to the international market in the future.
