Energia fires up business gas market with 10% savings

February 27

Irish businesses received a competitive boost today as leading energy provider Energia announced its entry into the business gas market. Energia will be providing significant discounts of 10% to Irish small and medium sized firms switching gas suppliers.

The company brings unrivalled expertise to the SME gas market, as it currently supplies 20% of all gas consumed in by the country’s large industrial and commercial gas users. These supplies combined with the use of gas at the company’s Huntstown power plant in North Dublin, means Energia already imports a quarter of all the gas supplies brought into Ireland.

Energia has established a 25% market share of the business electricity market on an all–island basis with 40,000 customers. More recently, the company has also been growing its market position through its dual fuel offering (electricity and gas) to business customers.

Today’s announcement sees Energia offer gas-only supply to small and medium sized business users for the first time. Energia are offering SME users a 10% saving on gas, in addition to the 10% already on offer for new electricity customers.
Gary Ryan, Head of Sales and Marketing, Energia commented, “Energia’s entry into the gas business market increases competitiveness and provides more choice for business gas users. Gas users can now take advantage of the same competitive benefits that we’ve been offering business electricity users.”

“We are combining our already significant expertise in the gas market with our proven record of offering competitive energy supply to Irish business. In such challenging economic conditions, a boost to competition in ’s energy market is to be warmly welcomed.”

“Switching is simple – nothing changes, except for the price. There are no connection fees, new meters or wires involved. Energia also offers customers superior customer service.”

A member of the Viridian Group, Energia has 250MW of renewable electricity capacity contracted within its energy portfolio, the majority of which is operational with a further 300MW of wind farm projects currently in development across the country.
