Sisters make smart move on energy savings

August 28

The Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary in Monasterevin are proving that the drive for energy efficiency and cost savings really is everywhere

The Order can look forward to attractive reductions in their energy use and cost savings of over 10% after completing an energy audit with competitive energy provider Energia.

Energia’s energy audit team carried out a comprehensive audit of the Order’s current energy usage, identifying potential cost savings and providing best practice guidelines for energy usage. The audit results will help the Sisters of Charity maximise energy efficiency and cost savings, potentially saving them over 10% on their electricity bills.

The recommendations were split into three types: those involving capital investment, such as replacing single glazed windows; short-term projects, such as fitting more efficient lighting fixtures, and; behavioural changes, such as turning computers and TVs off at night.

Terry Brady, Maintenance Manager at the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary said, “Thanks to the energy audit and advice from Energia, we’ve a much clearer understanding of how we use energy. We are very confident that we’ll be able to use electricity more efficiently and benefit from the associated cost savings. That’s a real plus for us, particularly in the current challenging economic climate.”

Cormac Mannion, Energy Efficiency Manager, Energia commented, “The drive for energy efficiency is now a feature of every sector in Ireland. No longer the preserve of business, community sector organisations such as the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary are determined to get a handle on how they use energy, and how their facilities and consumption patterns can be improved, in the name of cost effectiveness. Every organisation is extremely cost conscious and energy conscious in the current climate.

“Energia, as Ireland’s leading competitive energy provider, has always been a champion of cost effectiveness and improved performance.”

Energia has offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Belfast and Omagh.
