Energia to continue to light M50 and drive energy cost savings for M50 operators

27th November 2015 – Operator of the M50 motorway, M50 Concession Ltd, has renewed a major electricity supply contract with leading energy provider Energia.

The deal is worth €600,000 annually and will see Energia supply power to the M50 Motorways road lighting which has a load of over 1 Megawatt. M50 Concession Ltd operate and maintain the M50 motorway from the Junction 3 M50/M1 to the Junction 14 M50, providing a 24-hour emergency response and vehicle recovery service, patrols on the motorway, together with routine and cyclic maintenance operations.

Energia is also working with hundreds of companies on energy efficiency projects. Energia’s “Cash for Kilowatts” scheme means that any company spending more than €5,000 on an energy efficiency project can qualify for funding of up to 30% of the project value. The new scheme is open to all businesses, whether or not they are customers of Energia. 

As well as benefitting from the generous funding, businesses will also make very significant ongoing savings through the energy efficiency projects. For example:

·         Lighting: LED and high efficiency lighting can reduce your lighting costs by up to 75%

·         Heating: a new boiler or heating controls can save over 25% of your annual fuel costs

·         Refrigeration: new systems can reduce your costs by up to 30%

Energia has a 23% market share of the Irish business electricity and gas market supplying the energy needs of over 60,000 business customers. In addition to renewable assets, the company also operates a 750MW gas fired power station in north Dublin.
