Energia Group is proud to be the largest supplier of 100% Green Electricity on the island of Ireland*

How can we confidently stand by our green credentials? Let us tell you below.

*The Energia Group Renewables business owns and operates 309MW of wind assets and purchases electricity from 1,285MW of renewable generation capacity throughout the island of Ireland. The Group also purchases electricity under long-term off-take Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) contracts with third party renewable generators and the Group’s owned renewable assets through its Customer Solutions businesses. This is the highest volume of green energy MW production on the island of Ireland for a supplier.

Furthermore, Energia are proud to be the longest standing Irish energy supplier to supply 100% renewable electricity for the last six years. Based on CRU Fuel Mix Reports from 2014 - 2019 (the most recent reports), Energia is the only energy provider in Ireland recorded as supplying 100% green electricity for this given period. Find out more below and see how much CO2 our customers have helped us to cut.

We are leaders in our field and we want to continue to lead.

We’re also engaged in a wide range of projects including bio-energy, energy storage and solar energy.
Through our strategic initiatives and our investments, we are decisively addressing the challenges of energy provision in a world that is grappling with climate change.
We’re now further expanding these interests by investing in offshore wind farms and solar projects which will add further to our renewable energy portfolio, creating even further sustainability throughout our business and onwards to our customer base.

We Get Ireland Growing

We are in our fifth year of sponsoring Energia's Get Ireland Growing competition in partnership with GIY. This yearly campaign encourages community gardens and gardeners to grow their own produce thus reducing waste. In total we have awarded over €200K to Energia's Get Ireland's Growing winning gardens over the last 4 years.

Energia's Carbon Cutting Journey

How do we calculate how much CO2 our customers have helped to cut?

CRU specifies Typical Annual Domestic Consumption Values (TDCV) for household customers for use in Marketing communications etc. These are:

  • 4200kWh for Electricity Household customers

  • 13000kWh for Gas Household customers

If we multiply the residual fuel mix (which is the fuel mix applied to customers of a supplier who purchase no green energy certificates), by the annual TDCV for electricity we calculate the annual CO2 emitted by the year on year growth of customers. The figures for 2014 and 2016 are not in the reports so we’ve used the average all island CO2 emissions for these years.

  • Energia is proud to be the only Irish Supplier that has supplied 100% Renewable electricity over the last five years. These figures can be reviewed in the CRU's Fuel Mix Reports for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

  • Each year Energia emits ZERO tonnes CO2. Our Carbon Cutting tracker shows that since 2014, Energia customers have contributed to cutting over 1.3 million tonnes of CO2, simply just by being an Energia customer.

We want to make understanding energy easier for our customers and we know visualising carbon emissions can be difficult. We find this handy video by EPA Ireland very useful for showing what 1 tonne of CO2 looks like!
