The autumn evenings may be starting to close in, so there’s no better time to get your walking boots on for the 25th Ballyhoura Walking Festival, taking place from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th October in Kilfinane, Co Limerick.
Established as Ireland’s first-ever walking festival back in the day, it provides an opportunity to explore some of Ballyhoura Country’s stunning scenery. Many of the walks are led by members of the Ballyhoura Bears Walking Club–who have in-depth knowledge of the area and its heritage, history, flora and fauna–and are suitable for all abilities, from the enthusiastic well-equipped walker who relishes the challenge of the A & B level walks to the gentle ramblers who are out to enjoy pleasant C walks.

Shifting Ground is an outstanding new collection of sculpture in bronze from renowned Irish artist John Behan. The exhibition, which will open at the Kenny Gallery, Galway in October will include works touching on the artist’s experience through the Pandemic, a fleshing out his previous ‘Emigrants’ work including striking new versions of his iconic Famine Ship and examples of the origins of that theme in his Broighter Boat and Oar Boat series.
The exhibition will be officially launched by RTÉ’s BRYAN DOBSON at 6.00pm on Friday the 8th October at Kenny’s Liosbán Gallery in Galway.

Westport House was commissioned by John Browne, first Earl of Altamont, to a design (1731) by Richard Castle on the site of the earlier O’Malley tower house in the picturesque landscape of Clew Bay. Other distinguished architects involved in the later improvements to the house included James Wyatt & Benjamin Dean Wyatt. Westport House is currently undergoing restoration works to protect the external and internal built fabric under the guidance of Consarc Conservation, a specialist RIAI Grade 1 Accredited practice.
Westport House will provide guided tours of the exterior of the house followed by a tour of the piano nobile level to see interior works. Visitors will be met at the Construction Site Gate at the House Bridge at the tour start time and will be escorted back to the bridge gate to exit.
High-vis. vests and hard hats will be supplied for use during the tour. Please wear closed-toe shoes. Tour duration - 60minutes.
The Estate grounds are open 8am to 9pm for free to walkers and you are asked to show your love of Westport House and #LeaveNoTrace

Taking place on Sunday October 10th ‘Kilkenny Day’ is a celebration of all things Kilkenny. There will be events taking place around the county, that are open to locals and visitors with something to suit all ages and interests.
In Kilkenny city there will be live music, outdoor movies, children’s workshops, Viking re-enactments, art installations, a food and craft market and more…

Lime Tree Theatre & Belltable are delighted to announce the return of their annual Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival this October.
One of the highlights this year is the Family Day at Belltable on Saturday the 09 October to encourage family audiences back into the venue in a safe manner. Best-selling children’s author Dave Rudden will kick off the day with a 40 minute talk.
Families can also pick up a Modernist Trail map by OpenHouseLimerick and explore the city with fresh eyes for an hour or two. Their Bualadh Bos Human Library “drop-in” event will take place in the Belltable Hub throughout the afternoon.
Other festival events in a screening of Wolfwalkers and family theatre; Alice and the Wolf, Wild Atlantic Tales and Hansel and Gretel.

The current exhibition at Lismore Castle Arts, Light and Language, is now open. The exhibition celebrates the work of the late artist Nancy Holt and includes a selection of Holt’s work spanning 1966 through to 1982. The exhibition also presents the work of contemporary artists A.K. Burns, Matthew Day Jackson, Dennis McNulty, Charlotte Moth, and Katie Paterson who respond to ideas of light and language.
