To mark the centenary anniversary of the siege of Kilkenny Castle in1922, OPW-Kilkenny Castle is hosting a talk by Eamonn Kiely.

On the morning of 2nd May 1922, at the unreasonable hours of 5.30am, George Butler, Earl of Ossory, was awakened by his butler and informed that the Republicans had taken the Castle.

Eamonn Kiely will relay the events that took place during the siege of Kilkenny Castle and around the city. Eamonn served for thirty eight years in the Army, reaching the rank of Commandant and is a former guide with Kilkenny Castle.

It is an unforgettable, interactive experience where you can pet baby animals such as bearded dragons, chicks, rabbits and guinea pigs.
 
Children will also get a bag of food to feed some of the animals such as goats, sheep, emu, donkeys, cows, llama and lots more. You also get to see some more exotic animals up close like our cheeky monkeys; George and Gina, the wallabies, the parrots and meerkats.
