Féile na Sléibhte is a walking and hiking festival with something to appeal to all skill levels, from a casual weekend walker and hiker, to those who enjoy more of a challenge. Even an accomplished hill walker will find a gem or two here.

The Native Woodland Trust invites you to their Blessington Nature Reserve on Saturday 27th August at 11 am.

Come along for a biodiversity walk and picnic at our Blessington Reserve and investigate the plants and animals that call this reserve home.

We will walk around this reserve, exploring some of the different habitats which are found in the area. We’ll follow this up with a sit-down picnic (tea, coffee and biscuits) to get to know one another and discuss what we’ve seen. Please bring your own packed lunches too!

Iron smelters will make their own iron from Irish iron ore and blacksmiths will forge it into replicas of medieval objects excavated at Caherconnell Fort. A unique combination of spectacle and learning for the whole family.

Since its discovery, iron has thoroughly changed our world. Its ores are rather common and it can be made harder and sharper than other metals. With iron tools, wood and stone can be turned into castles and cathedrals, with iron ploughs more wheat can be grown and the army with the best steel weapons likely wins the war.
 
At the Caherconnell International Furnace Festival, you can see iron being smelted form Irish ion ore and forged into arrowheads, knives and buckles. On the free guided tours you can learn about the history of iron in Ireland and the connection with Caherconnell Fort.

Martry Mill will be opening their door on Saturday, 20 and 27 August, 2022. The Open Day includes a tour of a fully functional watermill on the River Blackwater, bread tasting, tea or coffee and a 2kg pack of flour!

Martry Mill is a fully functional watermill on the River Blackwater, with the earliest records dating back to 1641. In 1859, the Tallon family took over the mill and have been running it ever since. The current owner, James, is the fourth generation of Tallon men to run the mill.

The largest indoor farmers market in the Midlands, with a range of foods from local and regional producers. At intervals and on special occasions, local craft producers also sell at the market. The Totally Terrific Tomato Festival will take place on 27th & 28th August at Airfield Estate. has been running since 2012 and was founded by Nicky Kyle – an organic grower and sustainable food advocate. After a 2-year hiatus during covid, we are delighted to be hosting this event at Airfield Estate on August 27th & 28th.
 
Designed to celebrate all things tomato, which Nicky feels in all the thousands of varieties is a perfect and appealing demonstration of genetic diversity.
 
This festival shares the importance of preserving old varieties and useful new ones in case their genes are needed for future breeding programmes.

This year we are 12! IFI Family Festival celebrates its 12th year of film, fun and frolics, showing some of the best international family films and new Irish animations. We get off to a pig-tastic start with hilarious stop motion Oink, a Dutch-Belgian animation in which 9-year-old vegetarian Babs gets a birthday piglet from her long-lost grandfather, who has nefarious plans for the porky pet.

From Germany, Laura’s Star is a live action adaptation, in which a young girl finds friendship in the big city from a wandering lonely star. Last Film Show is a glorious tribute to cinema from India, through the eyes of 9-year-old Samay. Other highlights include Panda! Go Panda! based on a concept by Hayao Miyazaki, our popular short film programmes, artist workshops and more.
