The National Museum at Collins Barracks will host another instalment of their regular Hands on History this September. The topic for this event is The Emergency – the Irish name for the years of World War II. During the war, Ireland officially remained neutral and did not fight on either side, however the war still had a massive effect on daily life in country. Explore original and replica objects from the 1930s and 1940s and discover just what life was like in Ireland at this time.

For the past five years, Chilean artist collective Mil M2 (One Thousand Square Meters) has continuously developed its installation series Proyecto Pregunta (Question Project). By engaging in dialogues with Dubliners, they establish a catalogue of questions: these questions are printed in huge letters and mounted onto a mobile scaffolding that moves around the city each day. Question Project bring questions and critique into public spaces. Its layout attracts attention and intentionally fosters the empowerment of the city’s inhabitants. Dublin becomes a space for action that offers transformative and collective exchanges.

The spellbinding and amazing Cabinteely Carnival returns to Cabinteely Park on Sunday September 9th 2018. Our troupe of Phenomenal Performers will get their annual outing to amaze, astound and astonish between 1pm and 5pm on the day. The Carnival will take place in front of Cabinteely House, and is a free family fun day out featuring circus performers, activities and a chance to learn some circus skills.

Grandparents Day Walk

We are raising funds to put an external defibrillator box within the grounds of Bro. Leo Park. We are calling all grandkids to bring your grandparents over for a walk, and all grandparents to bring the grandkids! 
We also invite all locals on behalf of their grandparents to come at any time between 11am and 2pm to do a minimum of 2k (no maximum distance, it's up to you!). Refreshments and medals after your walk! Come along for a community event!

Mondello Park International 10K Run
Sunday 9th September
The KIA Race series finale takes place in Mondello Park on September 9th, and promises to be one of the great events in the 2018 road racing calendar. The circuit, which is 3.5km long will act as the route for the final race in the KIA Race series, which will also be ideal for those looking to pace themselves and set personal bests. The closed road, smooth running surface, on-site parking and facilities as well as having the unique benefit of allowing friends and family cheer you on and follow your progress will lend itself to an ideal series finale with the overall winner(s) of the KIA Race Series receiving their prize after the race. KIDZ FUN RUN IN AID OF BARRETSTOWN - At 10am on the morning of the International 10K, Mondello Park will play host to a Kidz Fun Run with all proceeds going to Barretstown. REASONS TO TAKE PART: Be cheered on by “The Stig”, water stations spread around the circuit, kids fun run before the main race, Mondello Park International 10k Medals for all who complete the race, get the ultimate “Grand Prix” feel, post race refreshments including BBQ, on-site shower facilities. Entry for the Kidz Fun Run is just €5 on the day with the run being split into three groups based on age 6-8, 8-10, 10-12. The number of participants for this event is restricted to 1,000 to cater for those competing for the KIA Race Series, people are advised to sign up early to avoid disappointment.

OBJ: Digital Handmade Exhibition

OBJ: Digital Handmade at the National Design & Craft Gallery showcases the works of Irish and International makers, whose practices are situated at the intersection of the digital and analogue. These makers draw on emerging digital tools and processes to experiment with material practices that are rooted in craft and design traditions, building objects that question and shape our world. This exhibition at National Design & Craft Gallery, presents the outcomes of hybrid practices that allow us to rethink the role of technology within the historical trajectory of object-making - re-evaluating how we value craft and define the 'hand-made’.

Works by Marguerite Donlon presented by Donlon Dance Collective. We are honoured to have the world renowned Marguerite Donlon return to Backstage. The Longford native, an innovative, contemporary choreographer based in Berlin, will introduce her new formed company DDC Donlon Dance Company, a pool of highly skilled dancers and artists with a double hill of work in Backstage. Heroes is a dance piece for four men and one woman, full of passion, skilfully balanced between comedy and drama, playful and intense moments. Solo for C and is a brand new duet which will have its first premiere at Backstage. With stylistic innovation, Irish wit and the combination of different art forms, Marguerite Donlon has pushed artistic limits to secure a place in the international dance scene. Known for her humour and profound creativity, her work thrills an unusually broad audience.

Killinick and District Garden Club Annual Gardening Show

This year’s KDGC Annual Gardening Show will take place in the EPA HQ, Johnstown Castle Gardens the weekend of Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September. Competition is open to everyone and classes include: homegrown fruit, flowers, vegetables and herbs, pot plants, flower arrangements and homemade preserves,  foraging, novelty and harvest exhibits, children’s showtime and family entries

Admission to the show is included in the ‘Gardens Only’ ticket to Johnston Castle from 9.30am on Sunday 9 September. Raffle with great prizes. Eoin has lived in Clare for the past 30 years and has been an integral part of the traditional music landscape in the county. In 2015 Eoin was the winner of the MÓRglór award for Outstanding Contribution to Traditional Music in County Clare and he is famous for his informal music sessions, throughout the county. We are having our annual 5k fun Run/walk on Sunday 9th of Sept at 5pm. Registration from 4pm in Depot (back line). Entry fee is €10 adult €3 student
and children under 12 free (& must be accompanied ) The 5k will incorporate the lovely greenway/Creevlea Abbey loop starting at the depot at 5pm sharp and finishing at Creevlea Abbey. Then back to depot for some lovely refreshments and spot prizes. This is a very important fundraiser to raise funds for our 4 Defibs in our area. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Mayo Street Food Festival

Mayo’s Street Food Festival returns to tantalise the taste buds in Castlebar on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Market Street (also known locally as Main Street) will play host to the festival, which will showcase the very best produce Mayo has to offer, as well as the culinary expertise of local chefs. The festival will feature a canteen-style tent which will be full of fabulous fare from the chefs, while outdoor market stalls will be brimful of mouth-watering morsels from the county’s top producers. The street will also come alive with music and entertainment to enjoy while you sample the appetising food on offer. The food being served up will have a price point of between €5 and €7 and festival goers are encouraged to sample several dishes to get the full street food experience. The aim is to team up producers and chefs in order to create street food with a true Mayo flavour. As part of the festival’s fundraising initiatives, tickets for the ‘Big, Big Gourmet Giveaway’ raffle will soon be on sale, with a host of fabulous foodie prizes all going to one winner! This year the Strokestown Agricultural Show celebrates its 152nd year and promises to be yet another wonderful event. Saturday's highlights include the Beef Bullock Championship, the All-Ireland Beef Heifer Championship among other top class categories. Harvest Time Rhythm & Blues Festival

Monaghan Town will play host to five days of raucous rock'n'roll and blazing hot blues music over five days this September. The festival is now in its 23rd year and remains extremely popular each year. The Diamond in the centre of town will host a special marquee which will feature performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from Glas, Clara Rose Band, DD & the Delta Boys, Rusty Jacks and Crow Black Chicken. Meanwhile, the Late Nite Club in Westenra Arms Hotel, also located on the Diamond, will feature the likes of the Grainne Duffy Band, Don Baker, and Rob Strong. Monaghan Town will be rocking with amazing Irish and international acts, and you can also check out the Blues Trail for free, which sees smaller gigs in a variety of venues around the town.

Headhunters Railway Museum for EHOD 2018

Why not visit the world's only railway museum in a working barbers shop. You will find one of the largest collections of Irish railway memorabilia on display.
