7 Tips to Make the Most of Working From Home

Without a doubt, this is a time of great change for businesses. We’re all getting used to social distancing measures, and for many of us, this means that working from home is a new reality. At Energia, Ireland’s greenest energy supplier, we believe that the new normal provides many opportunities to do our bit for the planet. We’ve put together 7 top tips to help you keep productive as you adjust to your new work routine.


Get ready for work


Take a shower, get dressed, grab a cup of coffee. In other words, do all the things you would normally do before heading into the office. This signals to your brain that it’s time to get to work. And since you don’t have to grapple with your daily commute by train, bus, or car, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint before you even start your day.
 

Find your (green) space


It’s not easy. The kids are off school and chances are you’re living with family or housemates who are also making the transition to remote working. But try your best to set up a dedicated workspace with everything you need – including a window! Open the blinds to let the sunshine in and save energy by keeping the lights off for longer.


Go paperless at home


Now is the ideal time to practice going paperless at work – especially if you don’t have a printer at home! Read documents online instead of printing them out and download a free to-do list app to help you virtually structure your day.


Hop on a video call


Business travel is most likely not an option for you right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep your meetings with clients. Make the most of free conference call and video software like Zoom, Google Hangouts, and Skype to keep up to date with your clients, wherever they may be. Plus fewer flights means you’ll be saving time, money, and the environment.


Stand up, stretch, repeat


No matter where you’re working, it’s always important to step away from your desk every once in a while. Go for a short walk or get some fresh air in your garden to help you recharge and destress.


Eat healthy. Feel good.


Since you have access to everything in your kitchen, you might be very tempted to stick on a pizza for lunch. But try to stay healthy by preparing meals with plenty of fresh fruit and veg that boost brainpower and help you feel good.


Enjoy your free time


Working from home means you’re going to have a bit of extra time for yourself and your family. Why not enjoy some of your free time helping your kids plant flowers (or even a tree!) in your garden or simply spend more time outdoors, appreciating our beautiful planet.
