Government achieves cost savings

14th February 2013 – Government Departments, public sector bodies and 3rd Level Institutions are saving on their electricity costs having moved to leading independent energy provider Energia. Energia continues to win public tenders to supply metered electricity to Central Government Offices and non-commercial public bodies.

Under the terms of the tender win, Energia expects to supply over 180 gigawatt hours of electricity per year to power Central Government offices and non-commercial public bodies.. The value of the contract which ranges from one to three years is estimated to be in the region of €25 million.

The supply deal covers a number of Government Departments, 3rd Level Institutions and public sector bodies such as Failte Ireland, Road Safety Authority, Shannon Developments, the Revenue Commissioners, and the Office of Public Works in Farmleigh.

Energia was also recently awarded the contract to supply all unmetered electricity to all the County Councils and many local authorities in Ireland.

In the renewable sector, Energia Renewables has over 140MW of contracted wind generation under construction and commissioning throughout Ireland this year which will maintain its share of wind generation at around 25%.

Energia are already among Ireland's leading providers of sustainable green energy with 550MW of operational renewable electricity capacity contracted within its energy portfolio, with 290MW of wind farm projects currently in development across Ireland. Energia currently has 25% of wind generation throughout Ireland under contract.

Energia has a 28% market share of the Irish business electricity and gas market supplying the energy needs of over 65,000 business customers.
