How would you describe your project?
A joint initiative between Mullingar mental health association and the occupational therapy departments of St. Lomans admissions unit, Mullingar community mental health centre and the Rehab and Recovery Team. An ongoing gardening project giving individuals the opportunity to sow, grow and harvest their own vegetables both at the project site and at home. It is offering hope to individuals, giving them a sense of identity, helping them with their routines and involving them in a project that is recovery focused. We are also creating a space where people can come and meet other like-minded people and chat!
Who does your project benefit?
People living with mental health challenges in the community.
What difference has the funding made to your project?
It has given us the confidence to proceed with extra enthusiasm knowing someone outside of our group also saw the potential benefits for the group! We built 8 raised beds for sowing, growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables.
What are your projects plans for the future?
To continue with the current area and work through the seasons- sowing, growing and harvesting. We have a lovely site, an enclosed, accessible area with small polytunnel and shed on the grounds of St. Lomans that we were able to repair and restore.
