How would you describe your project?
A primary school garden that will benefit the local and school community for years to come. We wanted the garden to be a magical and educational space. We are a small, rural Deis school. We have a space allocated for our school garden but our garden was very sad and in need of renovation!
Who does your project benefit?
The immediate and larger school community and the environment as we use recycled materials as much as possible, in line with our current Green School flag.
What difference has the funding made to your project?
The garden area has been transformed from a neglected rarely used area to one that is colourful and full of fun. Though we haven't achieved the magical element of our garden yet, work is in progress to create a fairy garden area with native plants for the local fairy folk. We have been able to create new planting spaces and repair the existing beds. We can also have class, group and communal growing spaces in the garden to suit different needs, abilities and projects.
What are your projects plans for the future?
To complete our fairy garden, to create a small orchard of various fruit trees, to extend our butterfly and bee meadow. We also plan to provide CPD training for staff. To incorporate bird boxes and insect hotels to encourage wildlife.
