How would you describe your project?
The Recovery Garden is based in an old walled hospital garden within the city, which had been neglected for years. We are working hard to restore the garden for use in the community.
Who does your project benefit?
At present, we are working specifically with people with mental health difficulties, but we envisage that in the future we could open up allotment spaces to other community groups.
What difference has the funding made to your project?
We have now cleared the space, and finally moved to the next stage, which is to grow food which we would use for cookery classes. The funding has enabled us to construct raised beds in which to grow fruit and vegetables and we are currently constructing an outdoor cooking area.
What are your projects plans for the future?
We hope to have outdoor cookery classes using the produce from the garden, and during Mental Health week in October we plan to host a barbecue to launch the garden.
What would you like to say to Energia?
This has been a fantastic cash injection, which has allowed us to do construction work which otherwise we could not have done. The newly developed space is becoming a peaceful sanctuary for people with mental health difficulties, as well as providing activation. Thank you so much!!
