Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, it's very simple to switch to Energia and it only takes 4 minutes to switch online. The information you'll need to gather beforehand is; your MPRN & GPRN (which you can locate on your bill), a current meter reading and your bank details. Once you’ve signed up with us, we’ll contact your old gas supplier and start the process of switching your energy account over to Energia. You do not need to contact your old supplier, we will take care of everything.
No you do not have to contact your previous provider, we will do that without any disruption to your gas supply.
Your gas meter will be read four times a year by someone from ESB Networks or Bord Gais Networks. These readings will be forwarded to Energia so we can calculate your gas bill.

As we bill you six times a year, we will make an estimate for the remaining two bills based on your previous usage. You can also submit a meter reading yourself, along with your MPRN or GPRN, via your online account.
Gas prices in Ireland have increased during the past year but there are different ways to save energy to make your bill more efficient. With Energia’s Cosy Homes Scheme, you can get access to SEAI grants for deep retrofit projects or avail of a gas boiler service. You can also save money on gas by regulating your thermostat and switching gas suppliers.

Natural gas in Ireland is currently supplied by a combination of imports via pipeline from Scotland and domestic production from the Corrib gas fields. Due to the depletion of the Corrib gas fields, Ireland is expected to become 80% dependent on imports by the mid-2020s and over 90% dependent by 2030.
