One of the most common options is known as the better energy home scheme, it was introduced as part of the government's initiative to reduce Ireland's emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. These grants are available to make it more accessible for homeowners to improve their homes energy efficiency and improve the nation's overall BER rating to a B grade.
 

What does the Better Energy Home Scheme cover?

The Better Energy Home scheme covers anything from upgrading insulation, heating controls, and heat pump systems, to installing solar electricity and water heating. SEAI will provide grants up to 35% depending on the type of home improvement. This grant also offers extra benefits to homeowners who complete three or more energy-saving upgrades in their home.

Who is eligible for the home improvement grants?

The SEAI have different grants available to homeowners depending on their eligibility.
All homeowners are eligible for partial grants if their home was built and occupied before 2006. If you receive certain social welfare payments and your home falls into this criteria you can obtain a free home energy upgrade.

What Energy upgrade grant is my home eligible for?

- If your home was built and occupied before 2006  you can avail of grants for insulation and heating controls.

- If your home was built and occupied before 2011 you can avail of renewable energy grants
