PICTURE:
OCTOBER 14 2022
As part of Budget 2023, the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme (TBESS) was introduced by the Government to help businesses cope with rising energy costs.
  • Who qualifies for this scheme?

This scheme will be available to tax compliant businesses that are chargeable to a designated tax category.

Please confirm with the Revenue Commissioners that you qualify for this scheme. You can find out more on Revenue.ie here

This scheme is aimed at businesses whose average unit gas or electricity price has risen by over 50% this year compared to the same period last year. Companies must obtain copies of their energy bills for 2021 and 2022.

The credit will be calculated as 40% of the excess of the 2022 bill over the 2021 bill, capped at €10,000 per trade per month. Overall caps per undertaking will also apply as set out in the EU Temporary Crisis Framework.

  • How do I access my energy bills?

You can easily access your energy bills via Energia Online (EOL). If you have not registered for EOL, you can do so at https://www.energia-online.ie/Login

  • How do I avail of this scheme?

This scheme will be operated on a self-assessment basis and administered by the Revenue Commissioners. You will have to submit your energy bills to the Revenue Commissioners within a required time limit. Please check www.revenue.ie for details.

Please Note: Payment of your bills is required in full, as per your agreed terms and conditions.

  • Can any bill be used to register for Energia Online?

Yes, any bill should work by using that bill number and due date.

  • Will my older bills be downloadable from Energia Online for this scheme?

Yes, you will have access to the bills you need, provided you were with Energia at that time. They can be downloaded directly from Energia Online. You can login to your EOL account here

If you were not a customer with Energia for the specified period of time, you will need to contact your previous supplier for those bills.

  • Do I need to contact Energia for my Average Unite Price?

No, this information can be calculated using your bill, which can be found by registering/logging into Energia Online.

  • Have payment terms changed to allow rebate to come through from the department of finance?

No, this is a self-assessed scheme run via the Dept. of Finance / Revenue Commissioners. They are responsible for reimbursing you, not Energia.

Please Note: Payment of your bills is required in full, as per your agreed terms and conditions.

  • If I am not a current customer of Energia, can I request the relevant bills for this scheme when I was a customer?

Yes, you can request these by emailing us at [email protected] . Please include as much information as possible with the required information, as this will help us to respond quickly to your request. Please provide details of the account number held with Energia together with your business supply address and company name.

  • Will I be eligible for a rebate each month?

This may not be the case as you may have received credits for some of your monthly bills due to up-to-date meter reads with credit already being applied to your bill. You may also be in a fixed rate contract, meaning that your rate has not increased over the 12 months qualifying period.

  • How to re-set your Energia Online password

On the Energia Online log-in page, simply enter your email address and select ‘Forgotten your Password.

You will receive an email with a temporary password which you can then change to a password of your choice once logged in.
