Ireland’s natural gas comes from two main sources:
- Imports from Scotland via pipeline
- Domestic production from the Corrib gas fields
As the Corrib supply decreases, Ireland is expected to rely more heavily on imports, around 80% by the mid-2020s, rising to over 90% by 2030.
Your gas meter is read four times a year by someone from Gas Networks Ireland (GNI), and the readings are sent to Energia to help calculate your bill.
Because Energia bills customers six times a year, the other two bills are based on estimated readings using your previous usage.
To make sure your bill is accurate, you can submit your own gas meter reading through your online Energia account.
You can learn how to read your gas meter with our step-by-step guide.
