Get your Garden Summer Ready

We’ve put together our top tips to help you get the most out of your garden this June – because you deserve to take a break in the sunshine. From growing your own vegetables to getting crafty with the kids, there’s something for everyone in our summer garden guide.

Spruce it up 🌿

Watering and weeding duties step up a notch in June. Use a watering can instead of a hose to keep your plants hydrated while reducing water waste. And use a sharp knife to dig up any stubborn weeds from the gaps of your garden path – giving your garden an instant makeover.

Cut the grass because first of all it will make your garden look so much fresher, but also because mowing can improve the lushness and overall health of your lawn.

Take out the garden furniture and give it a fresh coat of paint or varnish so you’ll want to use it all summer long. See if you can set it up in the sunniest spot of your garden to make the most of the warmer days.

Sow some summer seeds 🌱

Start your very own vegetable patch. Enter our Grow It Yourself competition to be in with a chance of winning a GROWBox to make growing your own food easy!  And check out the GIY website for all the info you need to get started.

For that country cottage garden feeling, now’s the time to sow foxglove, nasturtium and sweet pea seed. Watch them bloom and fill your garden with colour at the height of the summer.

Add some mulch around your plants to prevent weeds and reduce moisture loss when the weather heats up. You can even make your own with leaves, yard trimmings and compost.

Get crafty with the kids 🖌️

Got any old terracotta pots lying around? Let your kids give them a new lease of life with imagination and a paintbrush. When they’re finished, give the pots a coat of varnish to keep their creations looking fresh.

Make outdoor bunting to add a touch of joy to your garden, no matter how big or small. Cut up an old plastic tablecloth to create a free, waterproof, beautiful addition to your outdoor space.
Give your kids their own pot or window box so they can plant what they like and develop an interest in nature this summer.

Add a touch of magic

Light up your garden with outdoor fairy lights so you can enjoy being outdoors even when the sun goes down. Or put tealights in jam jars and scatter them around your patio or pathway for a real fairytale experience!

Make a fairy garden for your kids. This can be as simple as placing a little door at the base of a tree. They’re available to buy online or you can make your own with a spare piece of wood, some paint, and of course…plenty of magic.
